The Neighborhood Council Sustainability Alliance is launching its fourth annual Lawn to Habitat transformation and will select one Los Angeles property for its 2026–2027 project.

If you live in, own, manage, or are otherwise connected to a multifamily residential property with a grass lawn, you may be eligible to apply. The selected lawn will be converted into a 100% native plant habitat with water-capture features.

The project is supported by volunteer labor, donations, organizational assistance, and partial funding from the LADWP Turf Replacement Rebate. Although this is not an LADWP-led project, the selected property must meet all LADWP rebate requirements.

The property owner, whether a private individual, company, or homeowners association, must approve and support the project. Please obtain the owner’s approval before applying. The application should be completed by someone authorized to speak on behalf of the property.

The Sustainability Alliance hopes to cover all or nearly all project costs. Depending on the property and its specific needs, the owner may be asked to contribute. Any financial contribution would be discussed and agreed upon before work begins.

Applications are due October 1, 2026. The lawn transformation is expected to take place in February or March 2027.
