The Los Angeles City Council has approved a $25,000 relief fund to help residents of the northeast San Fernando Valley recover from the devastating wildfires earlier this month. The fund is aimed at assisting those who experienced income loss due to the disaster.
This relief initiative, led by Councilwoman Imelda Padilla, focuses on supporting residents in Council District 6, which includes the proud neighborhoods of Arleta, Lake Balboa, North Hollywood, North Hills, Panorama City, Van Nuys, and Sun Valley, which are often considered the heart of the Valley. The motion was seconded by Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez.
The relief fund is designed for service workers who faced financial setbacks because of the wildfires. Eligible workers include:
Councilwoman Padilla highlighted the interconnected nature of the local economy and the urgent need to support vulnerable residents.
“A disaster in one part of the city still affects the most vulnerable in others,” the motion reads.
Without this assistance, many residents may face severe challenges, such as:
To manage the program, the city will collaborate with Initiating Change in Our Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation (ICON CDC). This organization has been active since 2002, providing free services to low- and moderate-income entrepreneurs and small-business owners through the Los Angeles Business Source Centers in the North and South Valley regions.
This relief fund offers critical support to those most impacted by the wildfires, helping them recover and rebuild. Residents who qualify are encouraged to apply for this much-needed assistance.
